1 and 3 nm quantum dots; 500 nm image
AFM height image (light shaded) of quantum dots. Quantum dots are extremely small nanocrystals that have unique properties due to their extremely small size and single-crystal nature.
This results in them having a unique form of photo-luminescence which has application in sensing, biological imaging, and TV displays. This sample has a mixture of 2 types of particles, one batch is 1nm in diameter, and the other 3nm.
Due to low noise and high resolution, atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a very useful method to measure the diameter of quantum dots. This is a 500 × 500 nm image.
